Our First Lady

Sheila M. Buhl
"Bless the Lord, Oh my soul and all that is within me, Bless His Holy name."
I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. It has been truly an honor and blessing to be the 1st Lady of the One Way Baptist Church that I oftentimes feel unworthy to share in such an awesome role of responsibility. However, God has ordained this role a long time ago for I had no choice in the matter. Therefore, I must walk in obedience to His calling on my life to serve. God has been so good to our church and I'm very blessed to be a part of it.

As I reflect on where God has brought us, I’m so encouraged to continue to move forward and be used by Him to advance the kingdom of our God. I spent the majority of my life living in the great northwest of Seattle Washington. Growing up in Seattle from childhood to adulthood, even through high school and college, the Lord taught me through my conversion experiences what it means to trust in Him. It was through the providence of God that He allowed me to meet my husband and as he would say “we have been riding on the wings of God ever since.” He proposed to me on my birthday January 10, 1989 and we were married on March 18, 1989. It has been nothing but pure joy even through the challenges that comes with just being alive. But I could have never script my life in the way it has gone. My passion is to serve the Lord and give Him the best of my service until He sees fit to call me unto Himself. However, until then I will “Be stedfast, unmovable always abounding in the work of the Lord …that my labor is not in vain in the Lord” (I Cor. 15:58). I thank God that my OWBC family has accepted me for who I am and what I bring to our church as the wife of the Pastor. I am not your typical traditional 1st Lady, who is an out front-kind-of-person. However, it is in my heart to diligently work behind the scene, praying with and for our church that we can make a difference in the many lives God has allowed us to serve. I have the uttermost respect for my husband’s leadership, our church and how the Lord has guided our lives. God provided me with the insight of my calling early on in my Christian journey, which is to “pray, encourage and serve” as we seek to do His will. My greatest joy is to build up the body of Christ with something as simple as a smile; and to make a personal connection with each of my church family members. Due to the rapid growth of our church, I’m finding it a little challenging, but the rewards have been so great. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (I Thess. 5: 18). This has been the key for me, to be “thankful” for what the Lord is doing in my life as I seek to serve Him. The old adage says, “Count your blessings, named them one by one and you will be surprised of what the Lord has done.” I realize everyday the importance of a right attitude of being thankful in any circumstance that comes my way. I’m just grateful the Lord has given me the opportunity to serve in this small way of the One Way Baptist Church. My love for God, my husband and the work that the Lord is doing through him for our church, along with my family is very important to me. It’s in my heart to see God’s perfect will being fulfilled in the lives of the people He has given us to serve. It is my prayer through encouragement to each viewer, reader or member who may view this website, “availability to God and His church, opens up opportunities for serving others.” It is my honor to serve, be an encouragement and bless the name of our Lord!
