C.H.E.E.R.S. is an outreach ministry of the One Way Baptist Church that meets each Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The purpose is to provide a loving and caring environment where persons with Alzheimer's disease can come together and participate in activities to enhance mental and physical abilities, while allowing their caregiver time to rest or tend to other responsibilities
A typical day consists of morning greetings and socializing during a continental breakfast. After a devotional period we enjoy a time of singing and sharing memories. The remainder of the day is spent participating in planned activities such as gardening, crafts, exercising or playing active games to stimulate physical fitness. The last hour is spent enjoying lunch and fellowshipping with one another until departing for the day.
C.H.E.E.R.S. stemed from the Austin Chapter of the National Alzheimer's Association and it stands for Charity, Hope, Encouragement, Enrichment, Respect, and Support; all the characteristics that represent the outreach ministry of this program.
This service is free and open to all individuals with 1st stage Alzheimer's regardless of religion, race, gender or age. Space is limited and registration is required. Call (512) 238-8271 to schedule an interview.
